GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team earned second place at its own Winter Invitational Saturday night in the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool. The Wolverines earned 729 points Friday and Saturday to finish runner-up. Misericordia won the team title with 950 points.

Sophomore Noah Walker (Lexington, Ky./Homeschooled) helped pace Grove City Saturday by taking second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2 minutes, 4.49 seconds. Freshman Ben Satre (Hockessin, Del./Homeschooled) took third in the 200 fly (2:04.64). He also placed third in the 1650 (18:21.47) and fifth in the 100 fly (56.14).

Freshman Grant Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) placed third in the 400 individual medley in 4:49.38 and added a fourth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.96).

Senior Matt Mahan (Butler, Pa./Knoch) placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.68) while freshman Caleb McKusick (Waconia, Minn./Homeschooled) placed fourth in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.33. McKusick also took fifth in the 100 free (49.88). Freshman Jonathan Berhnardt (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette) took fifth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:28.48.

Grove city placed third in each of the three relays held Saturday. Mahan, Satre, freshman Karter Gagliardo (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) and freshman Jim Bossert (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) took third in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:43.56. Satre, Wilt, Walker and McKusick recorded a time of 7:39.56 in the 800 free relay and the quartet of Gagliardo, Bossert, McKusick and freshman Richie Klimek (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette) concluded the meet by taking third in the 400 free relay (3:19.93).

Klimek also took third in 3-meter diving with 198.60 points.

Grove City will visit Chatham next Saturday for a non-conference dual meet against Hiram College at 1 p.m.
