Grove City tops Hiram

PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team earned a 123-90 victory over Hiram in a non-conference dual meet at Chatham University Saturday afternoon.

Wolverine athletes posted the top time or score in 15 events Saturday. Senior Ben Bowser (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) recorded three of those 15 performances. He won the 200 free in 1 minute, 51.86 seconds and also took first in the 100 free (50.46). He also touched first in the 500 free (5:01.40).

Junior Josiah Douglas (Sayre, Pa./Sayre) won the 100 fly in 59.51 and also touched first in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.12). Senior Collin Foster (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) won the 50 backstroke (26.21) and touched first in the 100 backstroke (1:00.12)

Sophomore E.J. Leuschner (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) won the 1000 (10:45.51) while senior Matt Mahan (Butler, Pa./Knoch) won the 50 breaststroke in 29.76 seconds. Freshman Karter Gagliardo (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) prevailed in the 50 free (22.88) and sophomore Jay Wallen (Hudson, Ohio/Homeschooled) touched first in the 50 fly (26.64).

Freshman diver Richie Klimek (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette) posted the top score in both diving events. Klimek recorded 217.20 points on the 1-meter board and 194.85 points in 3-meter diving.

Foster, Mahan, Gagliardo and freshman Caleb McKusick (Waconia, Minn./Homeschooled) won the 200 medley relay in 1:45.91. Bowser, Klimeck, McKusick and junior Matt Hess (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) touched first in the 200 free relay in 1:32.81.

Grove City returns to action January 14, 2012 against Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Washington & Jefferson at 1 p.m. in the Wolverines' James E. Longnecker Pool.
