Grove City goes 1-2 at Pitt Quad

PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team went 1-2 Saturday afternoon at the University of Pittsburgh Quad in Trees Pool. The Wolverines earned a 148-138 win over Division II Clarion. Carnegie Mellon clipped Grove City 163-117 and host Pitt downed the Wolverines, 230-61.

Grove City's 200 medley relay team of senior Collin Foster (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East), senior Clay Beckner (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg), senior Ben Bowser (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls) and junior Eric Fairchild (Corry, Pa./Corry) opened Saturday's meet by taking third with a time of 1 minute, 38.04 seconds.

Foster, sophomore C.P. Dehli (Moneta, Va./Staunton River), senior Nick Hamilton (Crescent, Pa./Moon) and senior Kirk Gagliardo (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) closed the meet by taking fourth in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:28.21.

Gagliardo also took fourth in both the 50 free (21.98) and 100 free (48.37). He added a fifth-place finish in the 200 free (1:46.56).

Fairchild captured fifth in the 100 free with a time of 48.62 while Bowser placed fifth in the 200 butterfly (2:00.40). Sophomore Dave Bossert (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) recorded a pair of fifth-place finishes. He took fifth in the 500 free (5:01.41) and the 1000 (10:32.63).

Grove City will host the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships as part of the James E. Longnecker Invitational February 16-18.
