Wolverines top Bethany; clinch winning season

BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team concluded the 2011-12 dual-meet schedule Saturday afternoon with a 63-35 win at Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Bethany in Hummel Field House. Grove City improved to 4-0 in the league and 8-7 overall, which clinches the Wolverines' 61st straight winning season.

Grove City's 200 medley quartet of sophomore Karter Gagliardo (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township), junior Josiah Douglas (Sayre, Pa./Sayre), senior Matt Mahan (Butler, Pa./Knoch) and freshman Richie Klimek (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette) opened the meet with a victorious time of 1 minute 48.24 seconds.

Gagliardo also won the 50 free in 22.81 seconds. Freshman Ben Satre (Hockessin, Del./Homeschooled) won the 200 free (1:57.68) and also posted the top time in both the 100 butterfly (56.87) and 200 individual medley (2:08.75) on an exhibition basis.

Freshman Grant Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) won the 100 breaststroke with a 1:04.85 clocking. He also recorded the top time in the 500 free with an exhibition mark of 5:07.13.

Douglas, Wilt, Gagliardo and junior Matt Hess (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) closed out the meet with an exhibition time of 1:38.23 in the 200 free relay.

Grove City will host the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships as part of the James E. Longnecker Invitational February 16-18.
