Grove City 2nd after opening night
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team is in second place after the opening night of Grove City's 16th annual Winter Invitational at the James E. Longnecker Pool. Grove City earned 278 team points Friday night and trails only NCAA Division II Wheeling Jesuit in the team standings. Wheeling Jesuit accumulated 410 points.
Sophomore Karter Gagliardo (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) paced Grove City by taking second in 3-meter diving with 230.40 points.
Grove City's 200 free relay team of senior Matt Hess (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian), senior Jon Suchin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills), freshman Josh Blasdell (Leesburg, Va./Homeschooled) and junior Ken Vinyard (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) captured fourth place in a time of 1 minute, 32.30 seconds. Blasdell, Suchin, Hess and sophomore Grant Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) earned fifth in the 400 medley relay with a 3:51.01 clocking.
Freshman Nick Wargo (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) took fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:05.77).
Saturday's action begins at 10 a.m.
