Grove City 2nd at Winter Invitational

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team placed second at the Wolverines' 16th annual Winter Invitational Saturday night in the James E. Longnecker Pool. Grove City concluded the two-day event with 899 teams points. Division II member Wheeling Jesuit won the meet with 1,219 team points.

Grove City's 800 free relay team of junior Ken Vinyard (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield), freshman Stephen Cratsa (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills), senior Matt Hess (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) and sophomore Grant Wilt (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) highlighted Saturday's sessions by taking second in a time of 7 minutes, 39.86 seconds.

In 1-meter diving, sophomore Richie Klimek (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette) took second with 199.05 points, one spot ahead of sophomore Karter Gagliardo (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township). Gagliardo finished third with 160.15 points.

Vinyard, Wilt, freshman Nick Wargo (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) and senior Jon Suchin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) combined for a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:44.13). Wilt placed third in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.93) while Wargo finished third in the 100 backstroke in 57.29 seconds. Freshman Tim Bergquist (Kent, Wash./Kentridge) placed third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.88.

Cratsa captured fourth in the 1650 (18:10.49) while Wargo took fourth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:05.55. Vinyard earned fourth in the 100 free (49.98) and Bergquist placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:22.71).

Grove City will return to action January 12 with a Presidents' Athletic Conference dual meet at Washington & Jefferson.
