Strong opening night for Grove City
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team accumulated 216 team points Thursday night in the opening evening of competition in the James E. Longnecker Invitational/Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships at the James E. Longnecker Pool. The Wolverines trail Westminster by just five points in the team standings. Penn State Behrend is third with 198 points.
Two Grove City swimmers earned victories Thursday night. Senior Eric Fairchild (Corry, Pa./Corry) won the 50 free in 21.02 seconds while junior Dave Bossert (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) took first in the 500 with a time of 4:42.75.
Junior Louis Gabriele (Mahwah, N.J./Don Bosco) placed second overall in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:54.68. He finished as the top PAC performer in that event, earning the conference's 200 IM crown.
Fairchild, freshman Jordan Dehli (Moneta, Va./Staunton River), sophomore Caleb McKusick (Waconia, Minn./Homeschooled) and junior C.P. Dehli (Moneta, Va./Staunton River) earned second in the 200 free relay with a 1:24.26 clocking. That also ranked first among conference entries.
C.P. Dehli, Gabriele, Fairchild and sophomore Ben Satre (Hockessin, Del./Homeschooled) claimed third in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:30.68.
Grove City also placed two men in the top four in 1-meter diving. Sophomore Richie Klimek (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette) took third with 350.65 points and classmate Karter Gagliardo (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) finished fourth with 289.75 points.
Friday's preliminary session begins at 10 a.m. The finals will start at 6 p.m.
