Wolverines in thick of race
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team will enter the final night of the James E. Longnecker Invitational/Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships within 10 points of leader Westminster. Following the conclusion of Friday night's session, the Wolverines have accumulated 471 team points while Westminster has 481. Penn State Behrend is third with 415 points.
Junior Dave Bossert (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) led Grove City's individual efforts by winning the 400 individual medley in 4:09.94. Senior Adam Walker (Lexington, Ky./Homeschooled)earned third in that event with a time of 4:14.75.
Grove City opened Friday night's finals by taking third in the 200 medley relay as the quartet of junior C.P. Dehli (Moneta, Va./Staunton River), junior Louis Gabriele (Mahwah, N.J./Don Bosco), Walker and sophomore Caleb McKusick (Waconia, Minn./Homeschooled) recorded a time of 1 minute, 36.52 seconds.
Gabriele grabbed third in the 100 breaststroke (58.10) while senior Eric Fairchild (Corry, Pa./Corry) took third in the 200 free in 1:43.21.
Dehli took fifth in the 100 fly (53.01) while senior Ian Smyth (Troy, Pa./Troy) finished fifth in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.25. Senior Adam Walker (Lexington, Ky./Homeschooled) earned fifth in the 100 breaststroke with a 59.81 clocking.
Gabriele, Bossert, Smyth and Fairchild closed the session with a runner-up finish in the 800 free relay by posting a time of 7:00.52.
Saturday's preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. and the finals will start at 5:30 p.m.
