Grove City owns lead after first night
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team owns first place after the first night of competition in the Wolverines' James E. Longnecker Invitational/Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships. Thursday night at the James E. Longnecker Pool, Grove City accumulated 217 team points in six events. The Wolverines own a 19-point lead over second-place Westminster (198 points). Washington & Jefferson is third with 161 points.
Grove City opened Thursday night's finals by winning the 200 free relay in 1 minute, 24.91 seconds. The quartet of freshman Drew Nosbisch (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway), senior C.P. Dehli (Moneta, Va./Staunton River), junior Caleb McKusick (Waconia, Minn./Homeschooled) and sophomore Jordan Dehli (Moneta, Va./Staunton River) combined for the victory.
Grove City closed Thursday's session by then taking second in the 400 medley relay. McKusick, sophomore Jim Bossert (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek), senior Louis Gabriele (Mahwah, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) and junior Ben Satre (Hockessin, Del./Homeschooled) combined for a runner-up time of 3:29.96.
Freshman Jeremy Kim (Frederick, Md./New Life Christian) paced Grove City individually by taking second in the 500 free with a school-record time of 4:39.76. Nosbisch placed third in the 500 (4:43.98) and senior Dave Bossert (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) captured fifth in the 500 (4:52.21).
Gabriele took third in the 200 individual medley (1:57.25) and Jim Bossert placed fourth in that event with a time of 1:57.47.
Friday's preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. The finals start at 6 p.m.
