Grove City defeats Allegheny in home opener
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team started their 2014-15 home schedule with a 138.5-123.5 victory over longtime foe Allegheny on Saturday afternoon at the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool.
Two Wolverines posted multiple individual wins on the day. Sophomore Jeremy Kim (Frederick, Md./New Life Christian) won all three events he competed while classmate Drew Nosbisch (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) was victorious in a pair of events.
Kim won the mile in 17:13.33 and the 200 fly in 2:02.79 before concluding his day with a victorious time of 5:01.47 in the 500 free while Nosbisch earned wins in the 200 free (1:49.74) and the 200 breast (2:16.11). Nosbisch also swam the meet's fastest time in the 200 individual medley (2:04.00) as an exhibition swimmer.
Freshman Brett Gwynn (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield) earned the first individual dual meet victory of his career by taking the 100 fly in 54.18 while freshman Sam Archibald-Gutshall won the one-meter diving competition for his first collegiate victory.
Sophomore Jake Marino (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford), sophomore Daniel Peng (Indiana, Pa./Indiana), Gwynn and senior Caleb McKusick (Waconia, Minn./Homeschooled) opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay in 1:39.20.
Grove City returns to action Saturday when it hosts Saint Vincent in its Presidents' Athletic Conference opener at 1 p.m.
