Wolverines roll to Senior Day win over Bethany

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team won seven events and posted the day's fastest time in five others on their way to downing visiting Bethany 114-107 in Presidents' Athletic Conference action on Senior Day in the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Daniel Peng (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) was the lone Wolverine to record two wins on the day. After teaming with senior Jim Bossert (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) and sophomores Josiah Vehrs (Fresno, Calif./Homeschooled) and Sean McPhillips (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) for a meet-opening win in the 400 medley relay, Peng later earned an individual win in the 100 back (57.71).

Senior diver Mac Clyde (Mars, Pa./Mars) claimed his first collegiate victory by recording a career-best score of 200.93 on the 1-meter board. Junior Nick Wargo (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) won the 400 IM in 4:36.06 for the Wolverines (5-6, 2-2 PAC) while Jeremy Kim claimed victory in the 200 free (1:52.14). Sophomore Drew Nosbisch (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) won the 100 breast in 1:02.59 and classmate Jake Marino (Irwin, Pa./Penn Trafford) earned the win in the 50 free (22.67).

Vehrs recorded the meet's best time in exhibition in the 100 free (49.52), as did junior Stephen Cratsa (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) in the 100 fly (56.63), Nosbisch in the 200 breast (2:20.65) and Marino in the 200 IM (2:08.83).

The Wolverines also closed the day with the fastest time in exhibition in the 400 free relay, as freshman Brett Gwynn (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield), Bossert, senior Caleb McKusick (Waconia, Minn./Homeschooled) and senior Richie Klimek (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette) posted a time of 3:22.98.

During the diving break, Grove City honored seniors Bossert, Clyde, Klimek and McKusick, who were swimming in the final regular-season home meet of their collegiate careers.

Today's meet concludes the regular season for the Wolverines. Grove City returns to action when it hosts the 2015 Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships/James E. Longnecker Swimming and Diving Invitational from February 11-14. Preliminary diving will take place on Wednesday evening with morning sessions beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.
