Wolverines fall at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team dropped its first dual meet of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling at nearby non-conference foe Allegheny 149.5-129.5 at Mellon Pool.

Senior Tim Bergquist (Kent, Wash./Kentridge) led the Wolverines by sweeping the breaststroke events. He won the 100 breast in 1:03.84 and then completed the sweep with a victorious time of 2:20.58 in the 200 breast.

Sophomore Sam Archibald (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) also took first in two events to earn 18 points for Grove City, taking the 1-meter diving with a score of 148.44 and the 3-meter event with a score of 114.52.

Junior Jeremy Kim (Frederick, Md./New Life Christian) claimed victory in the 200 butterfly with a winning time of 2:05.55 and finished second in both the 1000 (10:46.91) and the 400 IM (4:34.33).

Fellow junior Josiah Vehrs also was part of three runner-up finishes for Grove City. He took second individually in the 100 free (50.87) and the 200 free (1:53.43) and swam the leadoff leg of Grove City's 200 freestyle relay, pairing with junior Jake Marino (Irwin, Pa./Penn Trafford), freshman Rhys Dickhudt and senior Jordan Dehli (Moneta, Va./Staunton River) for a time of 1:30.62.

Grove City opens its 2015-16 Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule when they visit Saint Vincent for a 12 p.m. meet.
