Grove City finishes eighth at Calvin Winter Invitational

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team wrapped up their weekend of competition at the Calvin College Winter Invitational by finishing eighth with 569 team points at the Venema Aquatic Center on Saturday evening.

Freshman Dane Hoselton (Naples, N.Y./Naples Central) led the Wolverines with a 10th-place finish in the 200 backstroke, posting a time of 1:58.40 in the finals after swimming a season-best 1:58.14 during prelims. Hoselton also posted Grove City's best finish in the 200 individual medley, placing 14th with a time of 2:01.47.

Juniors Jake Marino (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) and Randon Hoselton (Naples, N.Y./Naples Central) joined Dane Hoselton in the 200 backstroke "B" final, as Marino finished 13th (2:03.85) and Randon Hoselton 14th (2:05.13).

Junior Josiah Vehrs (Fresno, Calif./Homeschooled) took 12th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.91 seconds. Freshman Rhys Dickhudt (Troy, Mich./Bloomfield Christian) finished 16th in the 100 fly in 53.06 seconds after swimming a 52.39 during prelims while junior Jeremy Kim (Frederick, Md./New Life Christian) was 18th in the 100 fly in 52.62 seconds.

Senior Tim Bergquist (Kent, Wash./Kentridge) swam a season-best 2:15.08 in the 100 breast to place 15th while fellow senior Nick Wargo (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) was just a few spots behind in 18th with a time of 2:19.92. Wargo also finished 19th in the 200 IM in 2:05.42.

Freshman Matt Schallus (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seneca Valley) led the Wolverines in 3-meter diving with a 15th-place score of 216.00 while sophomore Sam Archibald (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) was right behind him with a 189.30, good for 16th.

Sophomore Andrew Kisak (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) joined with Dickhudt, senior Jordan Dehli (Moneta, Va./Staunton River) and Marino to close the meet with a 14th-place time of 3:16.77 in the 400 free relay.

NCAA Division II Grand Valley State won the men's team competition with 1,978 team points.

Grove City will return to competition after Christmas break. The Wolverines host Washington & Jefferson on January 9 at 1 p.m. and will honor their 2016 class of Hall of Fame inductees during that meet.
