Wolverines roll past Presidents
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Junior Jeremy Kim (Frederick, Md./New Life Christian), freshman Rhys Dickhudt (Troy, Mich./Bloomfield Christian) and senior Tim Bergquist (Kent, Wash./Kentridge) each earned multiple individual victories as the Grove City College men's swimming and diving team rolled to a 155-135 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over Washington & Jefferson during the team's Hall of Fame Meet on Saturday afternoon at Longnecker Pool.
Kim won the 1650 free in 17 minutes, 17.83 seconds and the 500 free in 5:01.93. He also swam the fastest time of the meet in the 400 individual medley with a mark of 4:29.22 in exhibition after Grove City had clinched the meet.
Dickhudt teamed with freshman Dane Hoselton (Naples, N.Y./Naples Central), junior Josiah Vehrs (Fresno, Calif./Homeschooled) and senior Jordan Dehli (Moneta, Va./Staunton River) to open the meet with a victorious time of 1:37.40. He then edged Vehrs for the win in the 200 free as the two posted times of 1:49.14 and 1:49.55, respectively. Dickhudt also won the 200 fly in 2:03.90 and finished second to Kim in the 500 with a mark of 5:05.01.
Bergquist swept the breaststroke events, claiming the 100 in 1:02.64 before later winning the 200 in 2:19.96. Dane Hoselton won the 100 back in 54.96 and finished second in the 200 back (2:03.70). He also joined Dehli, sophomore Andrew Kisak (Pittsburgh Pa./Central Catholic) and junior Jake Marino (Irwin, Pa./Penn Trafford) to post the meet's fastest 200 free relay time (1:28.68) in exhibition.
Dehli won the 50 in 21.95 seconds while Vehrs posted a time of 50.18 seconds to win the 100. Junior Randon Hoselton (Naples, N.Y./Naples Central) earned Grove City's remaining victory with a top time of 55.66 seconds in the 100 fly, beating out senior teammate Josh Blasdell (Leesburg, Va./Homeschooled) mark of 56.56. Hoselton also finished second in the 200 fly in 2:08.40.
Senior Nick Wargo (Cranberry, Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) added a second place finish in the 200 breast (2:23.22) and took third in the 100 breast (1:05.09) while Kisak was third in the 50 (22.91) and Marino was third in the 100 back (57.94).
Grove City returns to action next Saturday at noon when they host SUNY-Fredonia. During that meet, Grove City will honor its four seniors: Bergquist, Blasdell, Dehli and Wargo.
