Hoselton, Dickhudt lead Wolverines past SUNY-Fredonia on Senior Day

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- It may have been Senior Day at Longnecker Pool, but it was a pair of freshman who led the Grove City men's swimming and diving team past SUNY-Fredonia as Rhys Dickhudt (Troy, Mich./Bloomfield Christian) and Dane Hoselton (Naples, N.Y./Naples Central) each helped the Wolverines to three victories in a 157-140 victory over the Blue Devils on Saturday afternoon.

Hoselton swept the backstroke events while Dickhudt won both the 1650 and the 100 fly as both helped the Wolverines to a relay win. Junior Jeremy Kim (Frederick, Md./New Life Christian) earned a pair of individual victories in the 200 fly and the 500 while seniors Jordan Dehli (Moneta, Va./Staunton River) and Tim Bergquist (Kent, Wash./Kentridge) won the 50 free and 200 breast, respectively.

Hoselton, junior Josiah Vehrs (Fresno, Calif./Homeschooled), Dickhudt and Dehli opened the meet with a victorious time of 1:37.77 in the 200 medley relay and Dickhudt followed with a time of 17:43.71 in the 1650 for his first individual win of the day. Kim (1:49.69) and Vehrs (1:50.73) placed second and third in the 200 free, and Hoselton posted a time of 55.82 to win the 100 back and lead a 1-3 finish with junior Jake Marino (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford).

Bergquist and fellow senior Nick Wargo (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) finished second (1:02.65) and third (1:03.67), respectively, in the 100 breast while Kim pulled away in the final 50 for a victory in the 200 fly in 2:01.75. Dehli then won the 50 free in 21.94 seconds to lead a 1-2-3 Wolverine finish with sophomores Andrew Kisak (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) and Brett Gwynn (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield) to give the Wolverines an 85-64 lead into the first diving break.

Kisak (49.69), Vehrs (50.28) and Dehli (52.14) finished 2-3-4 in the 100 free out of the break before Hoselton (2:04.14) and Marino (2:08.38) once again went first and third in the 200 back. Berquist pulled away for nearly a five-second win in the 200 breast in 2:18.02 while Wargo finished third in 2:22.95. Kim was victorious in the 500 in 5:08.66, and Dickhudt followed with a win in the 100 fly in 53.48 while junior Randon Hoselton (Naples, N.Y./Naples Central) was second in 55.20 seconds.

Dane Hoselton (2:07.52), Wargo (2:08.73) and senior Josh Blasdell (Leesburg, Va./Homeschool) took second through fourth in the 200 IM to clinch the team win for Grove City, and the Wolverines' 200 free relays posted the top two times of the meet as exhibition swims. Marino, Kisak, Vehrs and Dehli won the race in 1:28.71.

During the meet, Grove City honored its four seniors competing in their final regular-season home meet - Bergquist, Blasdell, Dehli and Wargo.

Grove City is off next weekend before visiting rival Westminster on Thursday, January 28 at 6 p.m.
