Grove City downs Bethany

BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Grove City men's swimming and diving team rolled to a 103-71 victory over Bethany in Presidents' Athletic Conference action inside Knight Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Pete Wheat (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) picked up his first two collegiate wins and sophomore Brett Gwynn (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield) was also a double-winner while freshman Matt Belack (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills), junior Randon Hoselton (Naples, N.Y./Naples Central) and junior Josiah Vehrs (Fresno, Calif./Homeschooled) each added single wins.

Wheat posted a time of 1:55.91 to roll to the win in the 200 free and then added a mark of 5:15.23 in the 500 free to edge Hoselton (5:15.79) in that event.

Gwynn led a 1-2-3 Wolverine finish in the 50 free with a winning time of 22.65 seconds while senior Tim Bergquist (Kent, Wash./Kentridge) and Belack finished second (24.50) and third (24.86), respectively. Gwynn later outtouched freshman teammate Dane Hoselton (Naples, N.Y./Naples Central) by .01 seconds to win the 100 free in 49.87. He would also post the meet's fastest time in the 100 fly (55.12) in exhibition.

Belack earned his first win as a Wolverine with a time of 5:07.76 in the 400 IM while junior Andrew Gonzalez (Lovettsville, Va./Homeschooled) and sophomore Mark Newhard (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) made it a 1-2-3 Grove City showing in the event with times of 5:22.52 and 5:24.42.

Vehrs posted a winning time of 1:04.20 in the 100 breaststroke while Randon Hoselton's time of 2:05.34 won the 200 butterfly. Vehrs also added the meet's best time in the 200 IM of 2:09.81 in exhibition.

Today's meet concludes the regular season for Grove City. The Wolverine swimming and diving teams return to action February 10-13 when they host the 2016 Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships in conjunction with the 2016 James E. Longnecker Swimming and Diving Invitational.
