Grove City 107, Baldwin-Wallace 89


January 30, 1999--The Grove City College men's swimming and diving team broke three pool records and secured its 48th consecutive winning season with a 107-89 victory in its season finale at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, OH.

Three Wolverines swam away as double-winners in individual events led by sophomore Steve Johnston (North Wales, PA/North Penn), who broke B-W's pool records (set in 1990) in the 200 individual medley (2:04.05) and 200 backstroke (2:02.41).  Senior Todd Baumgartner (Grafton, OH/St. Edward) won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:53.32) and 500 free (5:09.63), while senior Bob Vander Weele (Corry, PA/Corry) touched first in the 50 (:22.70) and 100 free (:49.88).

Grove City's 400 medley relay team of Vander Weele, junior Trent Wilson (Cranberry, PA/Seneca Valley), senior Jeff Harris (Gibsonia, PA/Hampton) and senior Brian Toy (Melbourne, FL/Palm Bay) captured first place in a new pool-record time of 3:53.95 (old record set in 1993).  Freshman Chris Treter (Cranberry, PA/Seneca Valley) chipped in with a gold-medal swim in the 200 freestyle (1:53.96).

The Wolverines closed their regular season at 6-5 overall and will next compete at the PAC Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by Grove City on February 18-20.
