Meet Results

GROVE CITY, PA, January 15, 2000--Luke Downer (Daytona Beach, FL/Warner Christian) and Bob Young (Glenshaw, PA/Shaler) posted a pair victories each, but Washington & Jefferson won seven of 13 events to escape with a 122-107 victory at Grove City's College Pool.

Downer won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:20.88) and 200 individual medley (2:06.10) and placed second in the 500 free (4:58.18).  Young won the 50 free (:23.00) and 200 backstroke (2:04.37).  Steve Johnston (North Wales, PA/North Penn) completed a 1-2 finish in the 200 back (2:06.06) and added a first-place swim in the 100 free (:49.11).  Johnston also took second in the 200 free (1:46.94), getting touched out by less than half a second.

David Peters (North East, PA/North East) chipped in with a first-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.24).  Trent Wilson (Cranberry Twp., PA/Seneca Valley) helped GCC go 1-2 in the 1,000 free (10:50.66), placing behind Downer.   Bruce Unks (Glenshaw, PA/Shaler) earned second-place points in the 200 butterfly (2:12.29).

The Wolverines' dual meet record dropped to 4-2, while W&J moved to 5-1.

The meet was halted after the one-meter diving event in order for Grove City to announce its 2000 class of inductees into the GCC Swimming & Diving Hall of Fame.  Those inducted were Thurlow Mayhood ('50), Bill May ('53), Phil Van Sickle ('78), Randy Galm ('81) and Matt Wilkes ('87).
