Grove City men's tennis earns ITA Academic Award

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's tennis program recently earned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic team award for its cumulative performance in the classroom during the 2007-08 academic year. The All-Academic award is given to teams whose players compile an aggregate 3.20 grade-point average for the year.

Grove City is one of 36 NCAA Division III teams to receive the ITA honor.

Five Grove City players also earned the ITA's Scholar-Athlete award, which is presented to lettermen who achieve a 3.50 GPA or higher for the academic year: recent graduate Chris Baker (Erie, Pa./McDowell), current junior Peter Davis (Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian), junior Bill Derocha (Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron North), senior Jeremy Dwyer (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) and senior Jon Pombo (Marietta, Pa./Donegal).

A total of 238 Division III student-athletes earned ITA Scholar-Athlete distinction. Grove City's five ITA Scholar-Athletes are tops among all Division III programs in western Pennsylvania.

The Wolverines finished the season with a 13-6 overall record and won their 18th straight Presidents' Athletic Conference title.
