GCC closes Hilton Head trip with 7-2 triumph

HILTON HEAD, SC, March 28, 2002--The Grove City College men's tennis team polished off a six-day swing on Hilton Head Island with a 7-2 victory over the University of Southern Maine on Thursday. 

The Wolverines went 4-2 on the trip with all four wins decided by at least a five-point margin.  They return north with a record of 5-3 overall.

Sophomore Patrick Donahue won his second super tiebreaker in as many days and finished the trip 5-1 at first singles.  Freshman Phil Springirth won in straight sets Thursday to post a 4-2 record at second singles. Junior Geoff Gehring won at fourth singles to punctuate a 5-1 trip, while freshman Andrew Geisler rallied from a set down to finish 6-0 at Hilton Head and improve to 8-0 on the year at sixth singles.  Senior Chris Spiker won at five to even his mark at 3-3 on the trip.
