Wolverines win NCAA debut

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Grove City College men's tennis team advanced to the second round of the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament Friday by earning a 5-3 victory over Elizabethtown (12-6) at Washington & Lee University's Duchossois Tennis Center. The Wolverines, making their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament, will now face perennial power Emory Saturday at 2 p.m. in the regional semifinal.

Grove City (11-0 spring, 12-2 overall) won two of the three doubles matches and then captured three singles wins to sew up the victory. Junior Scott Yanak (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) clinched the win by securing the Wolverines' fifth point with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.

The Wolverines advanced to the NCAA Tournament by earning the Presidents' Athletic Conference title and the league's automatic qualifier April 30.

The winner of the Grove City-Emory match will advance to Sunday afternoon's regional championship. Saturday's other semifinal will pit host Washington & Lee against North Carolina Wesleyan.
