Wolverines fall to Wilkes in NCAA Tournament

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Wilkes University Friday afternoon in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, hosted by Kenyon College at the VandenBerg Courts.

Grove City (8-6 overall) captured two of the three doubles matches. However, Wilkes (16-3) rebounded to win each of the first four singles bouts to be completed.

For Grove City, senior Andrew Deckert (Mechanicsburg, Pa./East Pennsboro) and sophomore Peter Riley (Woodbury, Pa./Northern Bedford) combined for an 8-4 win at first singles over the Wilkes duo of Steven Wilson and Alex Makos. At second doubles, seniors Caleb Fuller (Columbus, Ind./Homeschooled) and Anthony Rosselli (Poland, Ohio/Poland) pulled out a 9-8 victory over Wilkes' Michael Kranz and Connor Peckham.

Grove City is now 2-3 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. Wilkes will face Case Western Reserve Saturday at 10 a.m. in the second round. The Wolverines will graduate five seniors from the program: Blake Brogan (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing), Deckert, Fuller, Dan McLaughlin (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler) and Rosselli.
