Grove City falls in NCAA opener

PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College men's tennis team closed the 2013-14 season Friday afternoon by dropping a 5-0 decision to Kalamazoo in the opening round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament, hosted by Carnegie Mellon University.

Kalamazoo (13-8) took all three doubles matches, then clinched the team with victories at fourth and sixth singles. Kalamazoo is the only NCAA Division III men's tennis program to have participated in each of the 39 all-time NCAA Division III Tournaments. Kalamazoo qualified for the NCAA Tournament by winning the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) for the 75th consecutive season.

Grove City (8-5) qualified for the NCAA Tournament by winning its 24th straight Presidents' Athletic Conference title April 26. The Wolverines have participated in each of the last four NCAA Tournaments and are 2-4 in national competition.

Kalamazoo will face Case Western Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the regional semifinals.
