Grove City stays perfect in PAC, sweeps Thiel
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's tennis team moved to 4-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference action by sweeping Thiel 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Walters-Zbell Tennis Courts.
Grove City (4-6, 4-0 PAC) dropped just five games to sweep the three doubles matches before rolling to wins in all six singles flights by dropping six total games.
Junior Thane Feldeisen (Ann Arbor, Mich./Greenhills) earned two wins in his first varsity action of the season while sophomores Jimmy Covatto (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) and Alec Liederbach (Wilmington, N.C./Cape Fear) both earned the first wins of their respective collegiate careers.
Feldeisen paired with senior Chris Collins (West Chester, Pa./Delaware County) for an 8-1 win at third doubles before rolling to a 6-0, 6-1 win at second singles. Covatto paired with fellow sophomore Jason Wichert (Collegville, Pa./Methacton) for an 8-4 win at second doubles before rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at fifth singles while Liederbach took his sixth-singles match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.
Wichert also added a pair of victories for Grove City at third singles and second doubles while freshman Zach Sprunger (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) won twice at fourth singles and first doubles. Junior Jon Graber (Atglen, Pa./Octorara) earned his first victory as a Wolverine in the first singles slot, and junior Dan Schafhauser (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) rounded out the Wolverine lineup by pairing with Sprunger for the 8-0 first doubles win.
Grove City continues its homestand tomorrow, hosting Waynesburg in PAC play at 3:30 p.m. at the Walters-Zbell Tennis Courts.
