Grove City edges Franciscan for first win
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's tennis team earned its first win of the 2015-16 season by edging Franciscan 5-4 in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at the Walters-Zbell Tennis Courts.
Grove City's first doubles tandem of senior Jon Graber (Atglen, Pa./Octorara) and Zack Sprunger (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) rallied from a 4-1 deficit to earn 8-5 victory while the Wolverines' sophomore Jon Fleet (West Chester, Pa./Hendersen) and junior Nate Roberts (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) also rallied for a narrow 8-6 victory at second doubles. Sprunger would also add the decisive victory for Grove City in singles play, overcoming a 6-0 first-set loss to pull out a 7-5 win in the second set before taking the third 6-3 at third singles.
Wolverine junior Jason Wichert (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) and senior Thane Feldeisen (Ann Arbor, Mich./Greenhills) added victories at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.
Grove City closes out its fall season on Thursday, October 1, hosting Mount Union at 3:30 p.m.
