Grove City sweeps Saint Vincent

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's tennis claimed sole possession of first place in the Presidents' Athletic Conference action by sweeping previously unbeaten Saint Vincent 9-0 on a beautiful Thursday afternoon at the Walters-Zbell Tennis Courts.

Grove City (5-7, 4-0 PAC) swept the three doubles matches and quickly claimed the match victory as senior Thane Feldeisen (Ann Arbor, Mich./Greenhills) and sophomore Zack Sprunger (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) rolled to 6-0, 6-0 victories at sixth and third singles, respectively, to give the Wolverines a 5-0 lead.

Sophomore Jon Fleet (West Chester, Pa./Hendersen) was tested early at second singles but pulled away for a 6-3, 6-1 victory while senior Jon Graber (Atglen, Pa./Octorara) rallied from a 3-0 first-set deficit to win 12 of the next 13 games for a 6-4, 6-0 win at first singles.

Junior Nate Roberts (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) had to grind out a 7-5 first-set victory at fifth singles before rolling 6-1 in the second set. Meanwhile, at fourth singles, junior Jason Wichert (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) rolled to a 6-0 first-set win but dropped the second set 7-6 on a tiebreaker. Wichert would rebound however in the 10-point super-tiebreaker, rallying from an 8-5 deficit to claim the final five points for a 10-8 victory.

Grove City will host a pair of conference matches on Saturday. The Wolverines take on Geneva at 10 a.m. before facing nearby rival Westminster at 4 p.m.
