Wolverines stay perfect in PAC with pair of sweeps
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's tennis team remained unbeaten in Presidents' Athletic Conference play by sweeping league foes Geneva and Westminster 9-0 and 9-0 in a pair of matches on Saturday morning and afternoon at the Walters-Zbell Tennis Courts.
Five different Wolverines earned four victories between the two matches. Sophomore Jon Fleet (West Chester, Pa./Hendersen) defeated Geneva's Eric Abbott at first singles and Westminster's Kornel Foremski at second singles while teaming with junior Nathan Roberts (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) for a pair of victories at second doubles. Roberts also added individual wins at fourth singles against Geneva and fifth singles against Westminster.
Sophomore Zack Sprunger (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) downed Jesse Hooke for a second-singles win over the Golden Tornadoes before returning to his usual third singles flight for a win over Westminster's Ethan McCarthy. Sprunger also earned a pair of wins at first doubles, pairing with junior Jimmy Covatto (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) against Geneva and with senior Jon Graber (Atglen, Pa./Octorara) against the Titans.
Senior Thane Feldeisen (Ann Arbor, Mich./Greenhills) and junior Jason Wichert (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) won at third doubles in both matches. Wichert earned individual wins at third and fourth singles, respectively, while Feldeisen won in the fifth and sixth slots.
Grove City didn’t drop a single set in
either match.
The Wolverines (7-7, 6-0 PAC) host Thiel on Monday at 4 p.m. in conference action.
