Perri invited to NCAA Championships
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College senior thrower Bob Perri (Washington, Pa./Trinity) has earned an invitation to this weekend's NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Oshkosh, Wis. Perri will compete as the nation's ninth-ranked entrant in the shot put Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Perri qualified for the NCAA Championships with a season-best throw of 52 feet, 8 inches at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships April 28 at Grove City. During the regular season, Perri also won the shot put at the California Early Bird (March 24), the Grove City Quad Meet (April 11) and the Westminster Invitational (April 21).
Last Friday, Perri placed third at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships with a mark of 49-7 3/4 in Oneonta, N.Y.
Perri is the first Grove City men's track and field athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championships since Rory Phillips earned All-American honors in the javelin three years ago. Perri is a three-year track and field letterman. He also earned four football letters at Grove City as an offensive tackle. Perri started each of the last three seasons at right tackle on the gridiron.
Wisconsin-La Crosse sophomore Bobby Riley is the top seed in the shot put at the NCAA Championships with a season-best mark of 57-5 3/4. The national championships begin Thursday, May 24 and will conclude on Saturday, May 26.
