Wolverines host PAC North Quad
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Seven different Grove City athletes picked up individual victories Wednesday evening as the Grove City College men's track and field team hosted a Presidents' Athletic Conference North Quad meet at Robert E. Thorn Field. Saint Vincent, Thiel and Westminster also participated in the unscored meet.
Senior Bob Rummel (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) and sophomore Derek Kruse (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) both picked up a pair of individual victories for the Wolverines. Rummel won the 400 hurdles in 59.10 seconds and also took first in the triple jump with a mark of 12.70 meters.
Kruse, meanwhile, won the 1500 in 4:10.83. He also cleared 1.78m in winning the high jump.
Grove City also swept the throws Wednesday night. Junior Chris Huber (Ontario, Ohio/Ontario) won the shot put with a heave of 13.82 meters while senior Bob Perri (Washington, Pa./Trinity) threw the discus 41.91m to earn victory. Sophomore Sean Domer (Indiana, Pa./United) earned his third consecutive win in the javelin with a throw of 53.69 meters.
Senior Matt Kulinski (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) won the pole vault by clearing 4.27m.
Senior Chris Andrew (Bow, N.H./Bow) won the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 9:51.09.
The Wolverines also swept both relay events. In the 400-meter relay, junior Chris Allebach (Souderton, Pa./Souderton), freshman Mike Cox (Smithtown, N.Y./Stony Brook), sophomore Tim Palma (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-Dewitt) and Rummel combined for a victorious time of 44.73.
Palma, junior Jonathan Coopersmith (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge), freshman John Fite (Sunnyvale, Calif./Ad Fontes) and junior Darin Miller (Line Lexington, Pa./Christopher Dock) won the 1600-meter relay with a time of 3:31.46.
Grove City will compete in the Slippery Rock Open Saturday at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium. The meet begins at 10 a.m.
