Wolverines compete at SRU Open

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Several members of the Grove City College men's track and field team competed in the Slippery Rock University Open Saturday afternoon at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

Junior Derek Kruse (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) paced the Grove City effort by winning the 1500-meter run in 4 minutes, 9.86 seconds. Kruse also took third in the 800 with a time of 2:03.04. He finished as the top Division III finisher in the 800.

Senior Tim Su (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) earned third in the 10,000 (34:24.44) while senior Darin Miller (Line Lexington, Pa./Christopher Dock) posted a pair of fourth-place finishes. Miller took fourth in the 400 (53.13) and also placed fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:03.47.

Grove City athletes also placed fifth in each of the three throwing events. Senior Chris Huber (Ontario, Ohio/Ontario) took fifth in the shot put with a mark of 13.70 meters. Senior Matt Six (Akron, Ohio/Manchester) placed fifth in the discus (40.31m) while sophomore Pete Polesnak (Hermitage, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 52.91 meters.

Grove City will compete in a Presidents' Athletic Conference North Quad meet Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Westminster College's Memorial Field.
