Grove City takes 1st at PAC Quad

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team won the Presidents' Athletic Conference North Quad, hosted by Westminster College Wednesday evening at Memorial Field. The Wolverines accumulated 85 points during the meet. Westminster took second with 46 points, followed by Saint Vincent (25) and Thiel (24).

Seven Grove City athletes earned wins Wednesday. Freshman David Ferreira (Titusville, Pa./Titusville) earned two wins for the Wolverines in the field. Ferreira won the long jump with a mark of 6.18 meters. He then marked at 12.46m in winning the triple jump.

Junior Matt Ridge (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) won the shot put with a heave of 14.33m while senior Matt Six (Akron, Ohio/Manchester) took first in the discus with a throw of 44.87m.

Grove City runners captured four wins on the track. Freshman Nick Philpot (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) won the 200 dash in 24.05 seconds while senior Darin Miller (Line Lexington, Pa./Christopher Dock) took first in the 800 with a time of 1:59.84.

Junior Derek Kruse (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) won the 1500 (4:11.12) while senior Chris Allebach (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) won the 400 hurdles with a time of 56.88.

The Grove City thinclads return to action Saturday at the Indiana (Pa.) Invitational.
