Grove City earns 7th

WHEELING, W. Va. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team placed seventh out of 14 teams at Wheeling Jesuit University's Bill Van Horne Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Wolverines accumulated 46 points to take fourth among Division III institutions in the field. Malone won the team title with 144 points.

Senior Frankie Hourigan (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) led the Wolverine effort Saturday by winning the 3000 steeplechase in a time of 10 minutes, 0.31 seconds. It is his second victory of the week as he also won the 5000 at the Grove City Mini-Meet March 23.

Junior Pete Polesnak (Hermitage, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) paced Grove City in the field by earning second in the javelin. Polesnak recorded a best throw of 165 feet, 7 inches. A total of six Grove City performers earned points in the field.

Senior Matt Six (Akron, Ohio/Manchester) took third in the discus with a throw of 148-5 while senior Matt Ridge (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) earned fifth in the shot put with a heave of 47-11 3/4.

Senior Derek Kruse (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) took fifth in the high jump by clearing 5-10 3/4 while sophomore Scott Harman (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) placed fifth in the pole vault with a best mark of 12-11 1/2.

Freshman Andrew Munro (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) took seventh in the javelin (148-3) while sophomore Ben Lutz (Sykesville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) earned seventh in the steeplechase with a time of 10:47.52.

Grove City will return to action April 3 at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational in Washington, Pa.
