Wolverines compete at SRU Invite

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team competed at the Slippery Rock University Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Bill Lennox Track in N. Kerr Thompson Stadium. Several Wolverine athletes posted top finishes on both the track and in the field.

Senior Frankie Hourigan (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) paced Grove City by winning the 3000-meter steeplechase in 9 minutes, 50.49 seconds. Junior John Fite (Sunnyvale, Calif./Ad Fontes) took fifth in the 400 in 51.06 seconds while freshman Josiah Tobin (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) placed fifth in the 5000 (16:49.12).

Senior Derek Kruse (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) cleared 5 feet, 11 inches to earn second in the high jump. Senior thrower Matt Ridge (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) claimed second in the shot put with a best mark of 46 feet, 11 3/4 inches. He also took fifth in the discus with a throw of 132 feet, 5 inches.

Senior Matt Six (Akron, Ohio/Manchester) recorded two third-place finishes in the throws. He threw the discus 139-9 and posted a best effort of 46-1 in the shot put.

Freshman Patrick Miller (Berlin, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) earned fourth in the long jump with a best effort of 18-9.

Grove City will compete in the PAC North Quad Wednesday afternoon at Westminster.
