Grove City fares well at Indiana

INDIANA, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team picked up wins on the track and in the field Saturday afternoon at Indiana University of Pennsylvania's unscored Ed Fry Invitational at Memorial Stadium.

Grove City closed the meet by winning the 1600-meter relay in a time of 3 minutes, 32.48 seconds as the quartet of sophomore Nick Philpot (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown), senior Tim Palma (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-Dewitt), sophomore Lester Bragg (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) and junior John Fite (Sunnyvale, Calif./Ad Fontes) combined for the victory.

In the field, sophomore Scott Harman (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) captured first in the pole vault by clearing 13 feet.

Senior Frankie Hourigan (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) took second in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 9:46.70 while classmate Derek Kruse (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) earned fourth in the 1500 (4:16.41). Senior Matt Ridge (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) earned fourth in the shot put with a mark of 46-9. That mark placed Ridge first among attached competitors in the event.

Senior Matt Six (Akron, Ohio/Manchester) earned fifth in the discus with a throw of 143 feet, 5 inches. In the 10,000-meter run, freshman Francis Ridge (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) earned fifth with a time of 36:21.92.

Grove City will return to action May 1 as the Wolverines host the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships at Robert E. Thorn Field.
