Wolverines compete at Bill Van Horne Invitational

WHEELING, W.Va. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team placed 13th at Wheeling Jesuit's 23-team Bill Van Horne Invitational Saturday. The Wolverines finished the day with 27 points. West Virginia Wesleyan won the team title with 89 points. Grove City finished second among Division III teams in attendance.

Senior Garrett Cichowitz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) paced Grove City by winning the 5,000-meter run in 15 minutes, 25.90 seconds. Sophomore Josiah Tobin (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) captured second in the steeplechase in 10:06.35.

Grove City's 1,600-meter relay quartet of junior Lester Bragg (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg), freshman John Green (Ligonier, Pa./Homeschooled), sophomore Patrik Miller (Berlin, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) and junior Nick Philpot (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) took sixth with a time of 3:32.36. Green also took seventh in the 400 hurdles with a time of 58.11 seconds.

Freshman Arleigh McRae (East Brookfield, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) finished seventh in the 1,500 with a time of 4:09.81.

Junior David Ferreira (Titusville, Pa./Titusville) led Grove City's effort in the field events by finishing sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet, 10 1/2 inches.

Grove City will return to action next Saturday, April 2, at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational.
