Wolverines compete at W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team took 13th out of 19 teams at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational Saturday at Cameron Stadium. The Wolverine thinclads earned 22 team points on the day.

Six Grove City athletes scored points individually during the meet. Senior Garrett Cichowitz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer), sophomore Francis Ridge (Derby, N.Y./Derby) and freshman John Green (Ligonier, Pa./Homeschooled) all posted fifth-place finishes for Grove City.

Cichowitz captured fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15 minutes, 26.44 seconds. Green placed fifth in the 400 hurdles (57.65) and Ridge took fifth in the 10,000 in 34:53.72.

Senior John Fite (Clifton, Va./Ad Fontes) took seventh in the 400 meters (52.24) while junior David Ferreira (Titusville, Pa./Titusville) led Grove City in the field with a seventh-place finish in the triple jump. He marked at 40 feet, 7 inches.

Sophomore Patrik Miler (Berlin, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) earned eighth in the 400 hurdles (58.55).

Grove City's 1,600-meter relay team of Green, Miller, junior Nick Philpot (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) and junior Lester Bragg (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) closed the meet by taking fourth in 3:30.73.

Penn State Behrend won the team title with 103 team points.

Grove City will compete in the Slippery Rock Invitational next Saturday, April 9.
