Wolverines 3rd at North Quad

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team placed third at the Presidents' Athletic Conference North Quad, hosted by Westminster College Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Field. The Wolverines earned 48 team points. Westminster took first with 77.5 points, followed by Geneva with 53.5. Thiel finished fourth with 16 points.

Four Grove City athletes earned individual victories at Wednesday's meet. Senior John Fite (Clifton, Va./Ad Fontes) won the 400-meter dash in 50.95 seconds while sophomore Josiah Tobin (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) took first in the 1,500 with a time of 4:12.81.

Freshman John Green (Ligonier, Pa./Homeschooled) posted a winning time of 57.82 seconds in the 400 hurdles. Junior David Ferreira (Titusville, Pa./Titusville) led Grove City in the field by winning the triple jump. He posted a best mark of 41 feet, 4 inches.

Fite, Green, junior Nick Philpot (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) and sophomore Patrik Miller (Berlin, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) closed the meet by winning the 1,600-meter relay in 3:28.86.

Senior Garrett Cichowitz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) posted a pair of runner-up finishes. He took second in the 1,500 (4:15.29) and also captured second in the 3,000 (9:08.52). Ferreira took second in the long jump with a mark of 19-3.

Grove City will return to New Wilmington Saturday to compete in the Westminster Invitational.
