Grove City takes 6th at Wheeling Jesuit

WHEELING, W.Va. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team placed sixth out of 16 teams Saturday at Wheeling Jesuit University's Bill Van Horne Invitational, held at Wheeling Park High School. The Wolverines earned 45 team points to finish second among the seven Division III teams in attendance. Seton Hill won the team title with 116.5 points.

Senior David Ferreira (Titusville, Pa./Titusville) led the Grove City effort by taking second in the triple jump. Ferreira's best jump reached 41 feet, 9 inches. He finished first among Division III participants in the event.

Sophomore John Green (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) earned third in the 400 hurdles with a time of 56.83 seconds. He finished first among Division III entrants in the 400 hurdles. Meanwhile, sophomore Arleigh McRae (East Brookfield, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) earned third in the 1500 with a 4:06.82 clocking. McRae also took fourth in the 5000 in 15:25.33.

Senior Ben Lutz (Sykesville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) placed fourth in the 3000 steeplechase (10:31.03) while sophomore Matt Mucha (Parma, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) took fifth in the 1500 (4:10.13).

Freshman Peter Christiansen (Frederick, Md./Homeschooled) earned sixth in the 5000 with a time of 15:40.35. Freshman Ethan Witmer (North Lima, Ohio/South Range) took eighth in both hurdle events. He posted a time of 17.32 seconds in the 110 high hurdles and then recorded a time of 58.86 in the 500 hurdles.

Junior Andy Munro (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) took eighth in the javelin with a best throw of 155-4.

Grove City will compete in the Washington & Jefferson Invitational next Saturday in Washington, Pa.
