Wolverines earn 3rd at Westminster
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team earned third place out of Saturday at the 14-team Westminster Invitational at Memorial Field. The Wolverines accumulated 93.5 team points and trailed only Penn State Behrend (131) and Westminster (126) in the team standings.
Sophomore Alec Schultz (Wayzata, Minn./Orono) led Grove City's effort Saturday by winning the 10,000 in 34 minutes, 0.72 seconds.
Four Wolverine athletes posted runner-up finishes in the meet. Sophomore Arleigh McRae (East Brookfield, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) placed second in the 1500 in 4:06.71 while junior Francis Ridge (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) captured second in the 10,000 (34:09.88). Sophomore John Green (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) finished second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 55.75 seconds.
Senior David Ferreira (Titusville, Pa./Titusville) led Grove City's effort in the field events with a second-place finish in the triple jump. He posted a best mark of 41 feet, 5 inches. Ferreira also finished fifth in the long jump with a mark of 19-8.
Sophomore Mark Talbott (Tallmadge, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) earned third in the 10,000 (34:53.62) while senior Ben Lutz (Sykesville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) earned third in the 3000 steeplechase (10:24.01).
Freshman Ethan Witmer (North Lima, Ohio/South Range) finished third in the 110 hurdles (16.72) and finished fourth in the 400 hurdles (58.76).
Green anchored the 400-meter relay team that finished fourth in the 400-meter relay in 43.83 seconds. Sophomore Mun Whan Cho (Seoul, Korea/Houghton Academy), sophomore Andrew Ledbetter (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) and junior Patrik Miller (Berlin, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) ran the first three legs of the relay.
Sophomore Matt Mucha (Parma, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) took fifth in the 1500 (4:12.62) and junior Tim Coyle (Langhorne, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) finished fifth in the 10,000 in 36:44.47.
Grove City will compete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference North Quad Tuesday afternoon in Beaver Falls, Pa.
