Grove City opens at California Early Bird Invitational

CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team opened the 2013 season Saturday by competing in the unscored California (Pa.) Early Bird Invitational at Adamson Stadium.

Junior John Green (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) led the Grove City effort by winning the 400 hurdles in 56.40 seconds. Green also took fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.34 seconds.

Junior Mark Talbott (Tallmadge, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) captured second in the 3000 steeplechase (10:13.93) while sophomore Ethan Witmer (North Lima, Ohio/South Range) placed third in the 400 hurdles in 59.72 seconds.

Sophomore Hayden Faust (Kemptown, Pa./Kutztown) led Grove City in the field events by finishing fourth in the javelin with a mark of 151 feet. Talbott placed fifth in the 5000 (16:14.59) and freshman Dane Mossgrove (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) earned fifth in the 110 high hurdles (17.46).

Grove City returns to action Friday, April 5 at the Slippery Rock University Invitational.
