Grove City competes at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team competed in the Slippery Rock University Open Friday evening at Bill Lennox Track inside Thompson-Mihalik Stadium.

Grove City closed Friday's meet by taking second in the 1600-meter relay. The quartet of freshman Jake Purvis (Colorado Springs, Colo./Classical Academy), sophomore Ethan Witmer (North Lima, Ohio/South Range), senior Patrik Miller (Berlin, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) and junior John Green (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) recorded a runner-up time of 3 minutes, 31.29 seconds.

Senior Francis Ridge (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) and junior Mark Talbott (Tallmadge, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) also posted runner-up finishes individually. Ridge took second in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:45.68 and Talbott finished second in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 10:09.05.

Junior Matt Mucha (Parma, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) placed third in the 1500 (4:15.69) while Green took fourth in the 400 hurdles (58.93). Junior Matt Logie (West Chester, Pa./Delaware County Christian) earned fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:03.38.

Senior Andrew Munro (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) led Grove City's field contingent by finishing fifth in the javelin with a mark of 164 feet, 3 inches.

Grove City will host an invitational at Robert E. Thorn Field Wednesday at 3 p.m.
