Grove City takes 4th at Westminster
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field placed fourth overall out of 14 teams at the Westminster Invitational Saturday at Memorial Field. The Wolverines earned 95 team points in the meet. Penn State Behrend won the meet with 159 points, followed by Waynesburg with 97 points and Westminster with 96.5 points.
Junior John Green (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) helped lead the Wolverines by winning the 400 meters in a school-record time of 48.95 seconds. That time also qualifies Green for the ECAC Championships in May.
Green also anchored Grove City's runner-up 1600-meter squad, which posted a time of 3:28.97. Sophomore Ethan Witmer (North Lima, Ohio/South Range), freshman Jake Purvis (Colorado Springs, Colo./Classical Academy) and senior Patrik Miller (Berlin, Ohio/Hiland) ran the first three legs of the relay.
Four Wolverines also recorded runner-up finishes on an individual basis. Junior Arleigh McRae (East Brookfield, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) took second in the 1500 (4:10.72) while senior Francis Ridge (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) earned second in the 10,000 with a time of 34:49.43. Junior Mark Talbott (Tallmadge, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) finished second in the 3000 steeplechase (10:03.64) and freshman Brandon Ward (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) took runner-up in the 110 hurdles in 16.80 seconds.
Witmer also took third in the 400 hurdles (59.06) while junior Matt Logie (West Chester, Pa./Delaware County Christian) finished third in the 800 (2:00.67). Junior Matt Mucha (Parma, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) finished third in the 1500 (4:11.45).
Senior Dan Landskroener (Mayer, Minn./Mayer Lutheran) finished fourth in the 10,000 (36:27.61) and Miller earned fifth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:00.35. Senior Andy Munro (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) led Grove City's field contingent by finishing fifth in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 6 inches.
Grove City will compete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference North Quad Thursday in Beaver Falls, Pa.
