Grove City competes at SRU

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team competed in Slippery Rock University's Dave Labor Invitational Friday night at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Freshman Daniel Christiansen (Frederick, Md./Frederick) led Grove City's effort by winning the 5000 meters in 16 minutes, 9.95 seconds.

Three Grove City athletes earned runner-up finishes Friday. Senior John Green (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) took second place in the 400 meters in 49.98 seconds while freshman Nick Betz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Discovery Canyon) earned second in the 110 high hurdles (14.98).

Senior Mark Talbott (Tallmadge, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) finished second in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 10:07.61.

Junior Peter Christiansen (Frederick, Md./Broadfording Christian) took fourth in the 5000 (16:40.18) while senior Matt Logie (West Chester, Pa./Delaware County Christian) came in fourth in the 800 (1:59.07).

Sophomore Tom Kocur (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) cleared 5 feet, 10 inches to earn third place in the high jump. That marked Grove City's top finish in the field events.

Grove City returns to action next Saturday at the Westminster Invitational.
