Grove City earns 2nd at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team earned second place out of 15 squads Saturday afternoon at the Westminster Invitational, held at Memorial Field. Grove City finished with 116 team points and trailed only Penn State Behrend (167 points).

Grove City recorded five total victories Saturday, including two wins by senior Mark Talbott (Tallmadge, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian). Talbott won the 3000 steeplechase in 9 minutes, 55.01 seconds and also took the 5000 in 16:24.27.

Senior John Green (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) won the 400 meters in 49.57 while freshman Nick Betz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Discovery Canyon) took the 110 high hurdles in 15.08 seconds.

Green, Betz, freshman Ryan Buchalter (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian) and freshman Nathan Bailey (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) closed the meet by winning the 1600 relay in 3:22.35.

Bailey, Green, junior Thomas Whittaker (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) and freshman Tyler Ramsey (Scottdale, Pa./Southmoreland) earned second in the 400 relay with a time of 43.39 seconds.

Freshman Daniel Christiansen (Frederick, Md./Frederick) finished second in the 10,000 (32:59.06). Senior Arleigh McRae (East Brookfield, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) took third in the 10,000 (33:54.38). Betz placed third in the 400 hurdles (56.60).

Grove City returns to action Tuesday at the Presidents' Athletic Conference North Quad in Beaver Falls, Pa.
