STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Four members of the Grove City College men's track and field team competed in the 2016 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

Junior Nick Betz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Discovery Canyon) scored Grove City's lone team point of the meet by placing eighth in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.51 seconds on Saturday morning. Betz qualified seventh into finals with a time of 8.36 seconds during the preliminary heats on Friday afternoon.

Betz, junior Ryan Buchalter (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian), sophomore Quaide Simek (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) and senior Brandon Ward (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) combined for a time of 3 minutes, 25.93 seconds in the 4x400-meter relay, good for 20th place.

Betz is under consideration for a berth in the 60 hurdles to next weekend's NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in Grinnell, Iowa. Betz recorded a season-best time of 8.21 seconds at Youngstown State's Icebreaker meet December 4, which at time of release ranks him tied for 14th among Division III competitors in 2015-16. The top 15 declared competitors in each men's individual event are selected to the national championships.
