Grove City opens outdoor season

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team opened its 2016 outdoor season Saturday afternoon by hosting Geneva in an unscored meet at Robert E. Thorn Field.

Senior Jonah Meyer (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) earned two wins for Grove City. Meyer won the 100 meters in 11.64 seconds and then took the 200 in 23.56 seconds.

Junior Ryan Buchalter (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian) took the 400 (51.31) while junior Dan Christiansen (Frederick, Md./Frederick) prevailed in the 3000 meters (9:03.85).

Freshman Ryan Budnik (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) captured the 5000 in a time of 16:28.51 and senior Brandon Ward (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) won the 400 hurdles (59.33).

Two Grove City field athletes earned victories Saturday. Sophomore Quinton Reed (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) won the javelin with a best throw of 175 feet, 10 inches. Junior Mike Cole (Leesburg, Va./Flint Hill) won the triple jump by marking at 40 feet, 10 inches.

Grove City returns to action April 2 at the Slippery Rock University Invitational.
