Wolverines win three events at Dave Labor Invite

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team recorded three event wins and a number of other strong performances at Slippery Rock's Dave Labor Invitational on a windy Saturday afternoon at the William Lennox Track.

Seniors Joshua Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Collegiate Academy) and Jack Erickson (Victor, N.Y./Victor) each recorded individual victories on the day. Erickson opened the meet with a winning time of 37:02.99 in the 10,000 while Dunsworth won the 800 in 2:02.48.

Grove City's 4x400 relay of junior Nick Betz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Discovery Canyon), senior Brandon Ward (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory), sophomore Quaide Simek (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) and junior Ryan Buchalter (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian) closed the meet with a victorious time of 3:31.67.

Betz, Buchalter and sophomore Drew Thibault (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) all posted individual runner-up finishes for the Wolverines. Betz finished second in the 110 hurdles in 15.04 seconds while Buchalter was second in the 400 with a time of 50.77 seconds. Thibault posted a career-best mark of 10:10.91 to take second in the 3000m steeplechase.

Junior Daniel Christiansen (Frederick, Md./Frederick) took third in the 5,000 while classmate Gabe Imhof (Strasburg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) was third in the 800 in 2:06.79. Sophomore Quentin Reed (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) led Grove City's throwers with a fourth-place mark of 50.48 meters in the javelin while junior jumpers Mike Cole (Leesburg, Va./Flint Hill) and Nathan Henry (Mays Landing, N.J./A.C.I.T.) finished fourth (12.85m) and fifth (12.41m), respectively, in the triple jump.

Buchalter, Simek, junior Jacob Zeltman (Kidron, Ohio/Dalton) and senior Jonah Meyer (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) finished fifth in the 4x100 relay in 44.93 seconds while Betz added a fifth-place finish in the 400 hurdles in 58.81 seconds. Ward finished seventh in the 400 hurdles (59.42) and eighth in the 110 hurdles (17.24) while senior Dane Mossgrove (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) was seventh in the 110 hurdles (16.89) and 10th in the 400 hurdles (1:00.80).

Buchalter was eighth in the 200 in 23.33 seconds while Simek took eighth in the 400 (53.53) and freshman Ben Koerber (Lake City, Pa./Girard) was eighth in the 800 (2:09.65).

Grove City returns to action next Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Oberlin Bob Kahn Invitational.
