Grove City wins PAC North Quad

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team posted the best finish among Presidents' Athletic Conference schools in seven of 19 events as the Wolverines won the 2016 PAC North Quad in conjunction with the Slippery Rock University Open on Thursday afternoon and evening at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Sophomore Quinton Reed (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) led Grove City by finishing first overall in the javelin with a season-best mark of 54.89 meters. Reed's closest competitor in the event was former Grove City All-American thrower Rory Phillips '04, the 2004 NCAA Division III runner-up in the javelin, who took second with a mark of 53.69 meters while competing as an unattached participant.

Sophomore Bryce Nelson (Avonmore, Pa./Kiski Area) also earned an overall event win by claiming the 3000 steeplechase in 10:57.46 while junior Daniel Christiansen (Frederick, Md./Frederick) was second overall and first among PAC participants in the 5000 with a time of 15:53.53. Junior Ryan Buchalter (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian) also finished second overall and led PAC runners with a career-best time of 48.73 seconds in the 400 while classmate Mike Cole (Leesburg, Va./Flint) led all PAC jumpers with a third-place finish in the triple jump, posting a career-best mark of 13.22 meters.

Senior Joshua Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Collegiate Academy) ran a career-best time in the 800 for the second consecutive week to lead PAC runners and finish fourth overall with a time of 1:58.29 while freshman Ryan Budnik (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) was fourth overall and tops among conference runners with a mark of 4:12.92 in the 1500. Senior Brandon Ward (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) posted Grove City's final top PAC finish of the meet, taking sixth overall in the 400 hurdles in 58.93 seconds.

Sophomore Chase Stout (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) posted a career-best mark of 3.85 meters (12-8) to finish among league participants and eighth overall in the pole vault while sophomore Nate Longjohn (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) was third among PAC jumpers and sixth overall in the high jump by clearing 1.80 meters (5-11).

Senior Dane Mossgrove (Indiana, Pa./Indiana), Buchalter, junior Jacob Zeltman (Kidron, Ohio/Dalton) and senior Jonah Meyer (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) posted a time of 45.30 seconds in the 4x100 relay to finish second among PAC squads and third overall while Meyer, Ward, Dunsworth and Buchalter closed the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 4x400 relay in 3:27.87 to take also take second among league relays.

Grove City returns to action next Friday and Saturday when they compete at the 2016 Presidents' Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Bethany College. Competition is slated to begin at 4 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday.
