Grove City 3rd at conference meet

BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team concluded the 2016 outdoor season Saturday by placing third out of 10 teams at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Bethany College at Rine Field. Grove City accumulated 108 team points over the two-day event. Westminster won the team title with 174 1/2 points while host Bethany placed second with 108 points.

Two Grove City athletes earned individual conference titles. Junior Daniel Christiansen (Frederick, Md./Frederick) won the 10,000 meters Friday night with a winning time of 32 minutes, 3.37 seconds. He then took Saturday's 5000 meters with a winning time of 15:15.85.

Sophomore Quinton Reed (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) led Grove City's fieldmen by winning the javelin with a best throw of 172 feet, 2 inches.

Sophomore Drew Thibault (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) earned second in the 3000 steeplechase (10:03.75) while junior Ryan Buchalter (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian) placed third in the 400 with a time of 49.09. Senior Josh Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Strong Vincent) placed third in the 800 (1:59.27) while senior Brandon Ward (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) captured third in the 400 hurdles (56.95).

Junior Mike Cole (Leesburg, Va./Flint Hill) marked at 42-10 3/4 to take third in the triple jump. Cole finished one spot ahead of junior Nate Henry (Mays Landing, N.J./A.C.I.T.), who placed fourth with a triple jump of 41-8 3/4.

Freshman Ryan Budnik (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) took fourth in the 5000 (16:18.90). Sophomore Nick McClure (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) garnered fourth in the 10,000 (33:54.90).

Also for Grove City, sophomore Bryce Nelson (Avonmore, Pa./Kiski Area) took fifth in the 10,000 (34:17.66). Reed placed sixth in the shot put (43-9 3/4) while sophomore Connor Lowe (Perry, Ohio/Perry) took sixth in the discus with a best throw of 123-10. Sophomore Chase Stout (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) cleared 12-7 1/2 in the pole vault, good for sixth place.

Junior Brandon Wise (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) finished sixth in the 10,000 (34:23.88) and senior Dane Mossgrove (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) secured sixth in the 110 high hurdles (16.75).

Several Grove City athletes will compete in the Allegheny Invitational May 13.
