Christiansen leads Grove City at Gator Invitational

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Junior Daniel Christiansen (Frederick, Md./Frederick) led several members of the Grove City College men's track and field team in action at the 11th-annual Allegheny Gator Invitational by winning the 5000-meter run on Friday afternoon and evening at Frank B. Fuhrer Field.

Christiansen won the event with a time of 15:08.94, less than one second off of his career-best time of 15:08.09 set at the Westminster Invitational. Junior Ryan Buchalter (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian) took third in the 400 with a time of 49.25 seconds while sophomore Quinton Reed (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) was fifth in the javelin with a best throw of 50.44 meters.

Junior Andrew Mascio (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) finished seventh in the 3000 steeplechase in 10:15.09 while senior Brandon Ward (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) finished ninth in the 110 hurdles in 16.76 seconds in his final collegiate meet. Junior Nick Betz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Discovery Canyon) returned from injury to take second in the prelims of the 110 hurdles in 15.23 seconds, but he would false start in the final.

Senior Josh Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Strong Vincent) concluded his career with a 16th-place time of 2:00.86 in the 800 while classmate Sean McDonnell also wrapped up his career with a 19th-place time of 17:14.93 in the 5000, less than 0.5 seconds off his personal-best.

This concludes the 2016 season for Grove City. The Wolverines lose seniors Jack Erickson (Victor, N.Y./Victor), Jonah Meyer (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs), Dane Mossgrove (Indiana, Pa./Indiana), Dunsworth, McDonnell and Ward to graduation.
